7th June

Catherine Sykes Quartet. Wednesday 7th June

(voice, guitar, violin, double bass)

Sometimes superlatives just aren’t enough – that’s how we feel about the delightful jazz vocalist Catherine Sykes. She’s one of the finest jazz vocalists you’ll in the UK – clear, concise tone, pitch perfection and that rare ability to wrench every last drop of meaning from a lyric. Last year, Bristol based Catherine treated us to a night of music in tribute to Peggy Lee but this time she’ll be bringing the music of her greatest influence – the “incomparable” Ella Fitzgerald. So there’ll be more jazz and less blues, but maximum entertainment celebrating Ella with tunes like Mack The Knife, How High The Moon, Cheek to Cheek and Take The ‘A’ Train. With Catherine will be Jez Cook (guitar), Ben Holder (violin) and Paul Jefferies (double bass).

Show starts 8pm.
